What We Need From You

Military Vehicles (HMMWV, M998, M1097, M35, HEMTT, etc.)

Military surplus vehicles have unique title situations. Here is what we need based on how you acquired yours:

• From a government auction (GovPlanet, Ritchie Bros., etc.): Your SF-97 (Certificate to Obtain Title to a Vehicle) or DD Form 1348. This is issued at auction and is your proof of transfer from the federal government.
• From a private seller: The seller's current Montana title or the SF-97 they received. If the seller has a title, obtain a signed title transfer. If they have an SF-97 and no title, bring us both.
• From another dealer or fleet: The MSO (Manufacturer's Statement of Origin) if it has never been titled, or the existing title with lien release if applicable.

In all cases, provide your full name, mailing address, and the vehicle's 17-digit VIN. Military VINs are typically found on a plate riveted to the firewall or dashboard.

ATVs and UTVs

ATVs and UTVs are off-road vehicles that many states will not title or register for street use. Montana will. Here is what we need:

• The original Manufacturer's Statement of Origin (MSO) if the machine has never been titled, or —
• Your current title (any state) signed over to you if you purchased it used.
• Make, model, year, and VIN (usually on a plate near the frame neck or on the frame itself).
• Your full name and mailing address.

If you bought the machine new and the dealer did not give you an MSO, contact the dealer, they are required to provide it. If it was purchased from a private seller who does not have a title, contact us before ordering; bonded title options may apply.

Motorcycles

• Current title signed over to you, or MSO if new and never titled.
• Make, model, year, and 17-digit VIN.
• Your full name and mailing address.

For vintage or custom motorcycles without a title, contact us. Montana has a bonded title process for motorcycles with a verifiable VIN.

Pickup Trucks and Heavy Trucks

• Current title from your state, signed.
• Any lien release documentation if a loan has been paid off but the lender's name still appears on the title.
• Make, model, year, and VIN.
• Your full name and mailing address.

For commercial trucks, provide the GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) from the door jamb sticker, this determines the registration fee class.

RVs and Trailers

• Title or MSO (same rules as trucks above).
• Length and GVWR if over 26,000 lbs.
• Make, model, year, and VIN.

Vehicles Without a Title
